Two Wolves
He said, "My son, the battle is between two ?wolves' inside us all. One is Evil. It is anger, envy, jealousy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority and ego.
The other is Good. It is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion and faith."
The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather: "Which wolf wins?" The old Cherokee simply replied, "The one you feed."
There were four major items on the agenda:
2. Election of members to the Congregational Council, 3. Vote on the parsonage question 4. Approval of the 2008 budget.
In addition, there were reports presented in writing from Pastor Gayle, outgoing Council President Mark Du. ff, and all Ministry and Action teams. Karen Holmes spoke briefly about the very successful 2007 stewardship drive, noting that $218,000 was pledged and that 47 members had increased their pledges this year.
1. Amendment to article C12.01 of the constitution:
The voting membership of the Congregation Council shall consist of the pastor(s) and not more than thirteen (13), members of the congregation, one of whom shall be a youth member, confirmed and under the age of eighteen (18). This number includes the officers of the congregation. Any voting member of the congregation may be elected, subject only to the limitation on the length of continuous service permitted in that office. A member's place on the Congregation Council shall be declared vacant if the member a) ceases to be a voting member of this congregation or b) is absent from four successive regular meetings of the Congregation Council without cause. (Changed language is underlined.)
Previously, the Council membership was twelve adult members only. After brief discussion, the amendment was passed.
At this time, the youth member will have a voice on the Council, but will not have a vote. When the amendment is ratified at the next year's Annual meeting, the youth member will have full voting privileges.
2. Election of members
Two synod delegates were elected for a one year term. They are Judyth Bigelow and Jennifer Vaillancourt. John Hanson, Susan Kinder and Mary Knoblach were elected to a one year term as Nominating Committee and Nicole Engstrom and Matt Rand were elected to one year terms as auditors.
3. Vote on the Parsonage question
The Resources Working Group explored all facets of keeping or selling the parsonage and presented those facts to the congregation in a number of open meetings, in the LOTI Link, and on the LOTI website.
After 30 minutes of discussion involving questions and answers and two minute presentations by members, the vote was take with this result: 48 members voted to keep the parsonage.(majority vote) 43 members voted to sell the parsonage
At the February 21st meeting of the Congregational Council, steps will be taken to create a plan for determining the use of the parsonage property. That plan will be presented to the congregation for approval at some future date, not yet determined.
4. Approval of the 2008 Budget
If you were not at the meeting and would like to read the reports of Ministry and Action teams, the church year statistics or the financial summaries and statements for 2007, copies are available in the church office. Call Bob at 612 377 5095. ------------------------ |
