OUR SAVIOUR'S SHELTER MEAL

On the first Friday of every month, Lake of the Isles serves an evening meal for the residents of Our Saviour's Housing in South Minneapolis.  This is a wonderful service opportunity for people of all ages to provide for others what they cannot presently provide for themselves. 

Serving the meal requires a team of 4-6 people who work from about 5 to 8:30 p.m. to prepare, serve, and clean up a meal for 25-30 people.  Here's the basic schedule:

• 5:00 p.m. - Meal preparation at Lake of the Isles kitchen
• 6:45 p.m. - Transport meal to Our Savior's
• 7:00 p.m. - Check in with Our Savior's staff and set up to serve
• 7:15 p.m. - Serve the meal
• 7:45 p.m. - Set aside plates for late-comers; clean up trash and serving dishes
• 8:15 p.m. - Leave shelter.  Return pans and utensils to Lake of the Isles that evening or on Sunday morning.

A standard menu:

• Main dish:  hot casserole like chicken and rice, chili, lasagna, tater tot hot dish, etc.
• Leaf lettuce garden salad with 2 bottles of dressing
• Garlic bread (3 loaves)
• Dessert:  cookies or bars
• Milk:  Bring 2-3 gallons
• Paper plates, cups, plastic silverware, and napkins.  (Supply maintained at Lake of the Isles.)

Directions to Our Savior's from Lake of the Isles:

• Get on Franklin Ave. heading east to Chicago (past Hennepin, Lyndale, 35W, Nicollet).  Turn right on Chicago.  Go 3 blocks.  Our Savior's Housing is on the left; turn left into the parking lot.
